Miscellaneous 2

I couldn't think of anything specific that I wanted to achieve, and my work this week didn't have a particular direction.

Summer Project: Week 10

Birthday Week!

My motivation is still at an all time low, but I managed to do a bit more work this week.

I read an article about the new labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn prosing an idea of women only train carriages in the UK.
I didn't make a finished polished editorial illustration on the article, but I jotted down a few rough ideas that I thought might be effective on the points and opinions raised by the public on the matter.

I turned TWENTY! It was the biggest anticlimax ever. This is just a quick drawing of a comparison of my third and twentieth birthdays.

My family and I did a costal path walk from Robin Hood's Bay to Whitby.

Quick drawing from my visit to the London Transport Museum, which was SO interesting (I have done a separate blog post containing my thoughts on the exhibition there)

Ears! because until now I thought that I sucked at drawing them

Summer Project Week 8/9

I've hardly done any drawings over the past week and a half. Being home has really had an affect on my motivation and I'm struggling so much to produce good work without being in a creative environment!

Feeling like I have run out of steam is really making me anxious for when I graduate. I know things will progress and change but I feel like I am trapped in the concept of becoming an illustrator, moving away from Leeds and being subjected to drawing in my tiny box bedroom in my dull, uninspiring hometown. It's scary!!

I chose themes from Phil McAndrews list that I thought I could manage with feeling pretty rubbish (hopefully it is obvious what they are!)

Summer Project: Week 7

SOS ILLUSTRATORS BLOCK

Back home in Grantham, there isn't much to be inspired by or interested in, so I was struggling a lot for ideas and motivation despite having visited different places.

I tapped into google 'what can I draw?' and I found this really handy website that illustrator Phil McAndrew has provided with a list of 400 things you can draw. So I started to work my way through it.

'Emotional fish'

'Slugs'

'Different breeds of dogs'

'Sushi'

My favourite topic by far was 'draw every house you've ever lived in'

This for me was pretty sentimental, as I have moved around a lot and lived in seven houses (sadly all in Grantham), I know it sounds cringey but each house is like a metaphor for different milestones in my life, so this was a bit of a personal project for me to engage in.

I posted this on my instagram and received some really positive comments. It has also sparked an interest in drawing buildings; how can they tell a story, how can buildings, or sequences of buildings relate to a theme or portray a message?

Something to think about!
